iPhone 3GS Poor Signal, Bad Reception

I just purchased a 16 GB White iPhone 3GS and am having terrible signal issues. At first, I thought it was only my local tower, maybe even only my phone. After consulting a couple people around the office who recently purchased the iPhone 3GS, I realized that they are all having the same problem.

If anyone else is experiencing this, please comment and let me know if Apple/AT&T can do anything about this. This is becoming extremely frustrating. I am right next to a window and I’ve receive three voicemails from people trying to reach me this morning! This seems to be an intermittent problem.

Yep, exact same problem. My phone works “ok” my wife’s phone can be right next to mine and get no service. AT&T is a piece of garbage. They told me we get “moderate coverage” but that means we have to be in a field, and can not be in a car or building…

They actually told me we needed to be in a field…

Can’t wait for Verizon to get the iPhone, then goodbye crap AT&T

I have been having the same problem. I have consulted both Apple and o2 and was told different things. Apple blames the network and o2 blames the phone.I really regret getting this phone, whats the point of having it if it doesnt work. I have two kids, I worry that if something happens, people will not be able to reach me, so tomorrow I’m purchasing a free handset!!!!

Hi I wish I had read all of this before getting my iphone. I have had problems with signal from day one on vodafone but my husband who has an old nokia phone on the same network always has excellent signal when the phones are side by side. I am on my second iphone 3gs and this one is no better. It is definately a fault with the phone not the network!

ATT Has had too many problems with coverage, but i havean iphone 3g, a 3gs, and also an older HTC Raphael(att Fuze), the Fuze and the 3g never have problems, but my 3gs never sees 5 bars of signal even though my fuze and or my 3g do. Something is definitely wrong with the iphones. Thinking of getting an Androind from Motorola. Sorry Apple, you just have to get the antennas right in order to make a good phone, otherwise th iphone is just an expensive ipod that cn be used once in a while to place a phone call.

Hey I am on o2 in the uk also, I’ve had terrible problems too, I get ‘no service’ In my house and it drops out a lot when anywhere else, I also have the issue that sometimes even with full 3G reception it won’t phone or text people, have to reset it to get it working.
It is most definatly the White 3GS that has the issue as my friend has the same 16gig but black and, although his phone won’t ring out either sometimes, he generally has better reception than me, when I get no service he will have 1 or 2 bars… We are on the same network with the same phone, so what’s the deal? I’ve seen some stuff written about the paint used on the white ones, could it contain something which blocks the signal? I know it sounds stupid but it’s the only difference…

I have an iPhone 3GS and my girlfriend has a 3G. We’re both on the same network, O2.
She always has two more bars than me, even when the phones are side by side, so it must be the phone! Very frustrating when we’re in a ‘two-bar’ area! She’s fine, and my phone doesn’t work at all!

I have the 3G Iphone. Upgraded software to version 4.2.1 (8C148) and still have lousy reception. Gotta be the phone.

Got something to say? Go for it!
